Was ICFF bad?

Design Sponge thinks it was not a good year for the ICFF. Here's a quote from her post on May 16th:

"I felt agitated and frustrated and disappointed at what I felt was a show of people mainly playing it safe. Either by failing to push trends further or by leaning too hard on classic designs that have been staples since the 1950s and 60s. And that’s not the design community that I know and love. I know that there are amazing designers out there, pushing themselves to do something different and innovative. A handful of them were at the show this year, but for the most part it felt like those people doing exciting things weren’t (or couldn’t be) there."

There is a somewhat one sided discussion going on in the comments. Many commenters have suggested that there should be some sort of competition or corporate sponsored area to lower the cost of entry for up and coming designers. The thing is, GLM (the producer of ICFF) and Bernhardt have been doing just this for several years now with their ICFF Studio program. What do you think?
